TASARRUF MEVDUATI SİGORTA FONU (SAVINGS INSURANCE DEPOSIT FUND) 28 September 2009 TMSF was chosen as the World Deposit Insurer of the Year Savings Insurance Deposit Fund (“TMSF”) was chosen as the best deposit insurer of 2009 by the General Assembly of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (“IADI”). The Deposit Insurance Organization of the Year Award has been presented since 2005 to countries that contribute to international studies and have model organization structure in the deposit insurance area. The award was given in 2008 to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (“FDIC”) of the United States, which is the equivalent of TMSF in the US. The Deposit Insurance Organization of the Year Awards Ceremony was held in Basel, Switzerland on September 24, 2009 following the Annual General Assembly Meeting. TMSF’s award was presented to Mr. Ahmet Ertürk, TMSF’s chairman, by Mr. Martin Gruenberg, IADI’s chairman. In IADI’s announcement it is explained why TMSF had been chosen for the award, highlighting the successful accomplishments of the organization: TMSF has put into effect several developed applications in the deposit insurance area such as risk-based insurance premium structure; it has vast experience in bank analysis activities; it is actively involved in international studies; it has shared its experience in Turkey at all the meetings and conferences of IADI which has taken a pivotal role in the resolution of the recent global financial crisis; and TMSF’s practices have served as a model for maintaining financial stability. TMSF’s chairman, Mr. Ahmet Ertürk gave a speech at the ceremony saying, “So many have lost so much as a result of the global financial crisis but the importance of deposit insurance and deposit insurers has been highlighted now as never before. TMSF has been presented with several awards in Turkey; however, the recognition of our organization’s efforts on an international level brings us even greater pleasure. TMSF’s aim was to become an active and pioneering contributor to the stability of the international financial system for 2008-2010, and this award assures us that we are on the right track.” At the IADI’s Annual General Assembly Meeting, a Conference on the Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems was organized by the Financial Stability Institute and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. At this conference, Dr. Rıdvan Çabukel gave a speech entitled Effective Resolution Process, one of the most important principles in deposit insurance.
