National Deposit Insurance Fund of Hungary

András Fekete-Gyor became the Deputy Managing Director of the National Deposit Insurance Fund (NDIF) of Hungary in 1993, following his work as member of a three-member project team to establish the fund. The NDIF is the first deposit insurance system that has been established in Eastern Europe. Mr. Fekete-Gyor’s responsibilities include management of failed bank assets, resolution of problem banks, PR activities, accounting and finance, as well as investment operations of the fund.

As of January 2006, the mandate of the Fund were amended and is now functioning as a pure “pay-box” scheme, along with other important organizational changes. Mr. Fekete-Gyor now serves as Chief Economist of NDIF, as well as deputy to the Managing Director. His responsibilities also include the premium issues.

Before Mr. Fekete-Gyor’s work at the NDIF, he was the Managing Director of the Chief Representative Office for Eastern Europe of Pilar Management, a Monaco based conglomerate of companies active in insurance, as well as in merchant and commercial banking. In this position he was responsible for formulating investment strategies in Eastern Europe.

Mr. Fekete-Gyor also served as the General Manager and Head of International Banking Relations for Unicbank Rt., Senior Manager of the International Monetary Department of the National Bank of Hungary, and Import Manager of Monimpex Trading Co Ltd.

Mr. Fekete-Gyor received his doctorate and masters degrees from the Economics University of Budapest.
